When you’re getting ready to paint rocks, you may be asking yourself the question, do I need a base coat?
Adding a base coat to a rock is personal decision.
There are 4 situations where I typically add a base coat:
- The rock is dark. If the rock is dark, a light color base coat will help make the design pop.
- The rock is rough. Adding a base coat can help smooth out the surface of the rock.
- I’m fixing a mistake. The easiest way to start over on a rock is to paint a base coat over the mistake.
- It’s part of the design. Sometimes adding a base coat will give my design the look I want.
