Anytime I create a post with my dotting tools there are always comments saying they “just can’t get it”. Trying to jump right into dotted mandalas can be hard. Especially if you have never worked with dotting tools before. If you can relate then this post is for you!
Supplies for Dot Painting
You are going to need some dotting tools. We have a set listed in our shop that is a good starting point. As you improve you may want to invest in a more expensive set, but this set does well for me! For paints I am using acrylic right out of the 2oz bottle. You can get these stones from this Etsy shop, but you can create this design on any shape/size of rock.

How to Practice Walking Dots Step-by-Step
Below you will find step by step images on how to create this design. There is a full video tutorial after if you are looking for more details or tips!
For this design I started with a large circle in the center of my stone. Next, load up your dotting tool with paint. You want a good amount on your tool. Then starting near the center place your first dot. Then continue with the same paint on your tool dotting away from the center. This is walking dots. You will see as the paint is placed the dots will get smaller and smaller!
To keep your design even create your next dot across the circle from your first. The next 2 should be in the middle of those. After you have completed 4 then you can fill in-between your main dots with one or 2 more starting dots depending on the size of you design. Then just practice walking your dots out to the edges until you like the look of your design! You can also start at the edges and walk towards the center!
