Supplies to Paint Mt. Calvary
We are blending quite a few colors for the sunset on this stone. Orange, red-orange, red, purple, blue, and even black. If you are using paint pens make sure they are water-based so you can do some blending! You can also easily do this tutorial with acrylic paints! An extra fine tip black is great for making the crosses!

Painting the Sunset on Mt. Calvary Step-by-Step
Below you will find step by step images on how to create this design. There is a full video tutorial after if you are looking for more details or tips!
Start by color blocking out your sunset with your paint pens or acrylic paints. Do this by putting down a base of each color you will using. Then one section at a time add a small amount more of each color where you will blend and then take a damp brush to work them together.
Once all of your colors are blended add on the ground in black. I like to add a small amount of texture to the top of the black so it isn’t just a solid line. Finally, add on all 3 crosses!
- If you are using this tutorial to paint a rock, make sure to seal your painted rocks before putting them out into the world!
