For this op art heart design we are using secondary colors. Mainly because Halloween is right around the corner and these colors just say Halloween to me. Recreate this painted heart in any color combination you like!
Supplies for this Heart Rock Design
For the colors on this rock I used extra fine tip paint pens from my Artistro pack. You can fill the solid colored portions of this stone with any paints you have, including acrylics and a brush. I do suggest an extra fine tip black paint pen for the lines. I cannot imagine doing that part with a brush.
How to Paint an Op Art Heart Step-by-Step
Below you will find step by step images on how to paint this design. There is a full video tutorial after if you are looking for more details or tips!
Start by placing a heart outline on your rocks. Create wavy lines to break your heart into as many sections as you like. When creating the waves have them pinch and bulge in the same places. Pick a place in each section to create an squinting eye shape.
Add curved lines out from the eye shape in both directions until you reach both ends. Repeat in all sections! Don’t forget to give you heart a nice thick outline to clean up any lines that might go over.
