Straight Lines On Rocks
Sometimes you want to create a fun rock painting idea that includes a straight line. Seems simple enough. Then your run into a bump, or you have an awkward curve in the rock.
So I came up with this very simple hack. It’s a quick way to create straight lines on rocks with ease.
I used this hack to create a fun abstract rainbow painted rock. I love painting rainbow patterns, and this one turned out super fun.

Step by step instructions for this abstract rainbow painted rock
You can grab the Posca pens that I used on this painted rock here.
Grab a thick piece of card stock or a thin piece of cardboard. This works perfect for drawing straight lines onto a rock. I grabbed the back off of a pad of notebook paper.
A ruler is going to be too stiff to draw the straight lines.
If you start getting too much ink onto the edge of your paper, just turn it and keep going.
For this pattern, I did all the vertical lines first and then followed that with the horizontal lines.
Keep in mind that you don’t want too small of triangles in your design.
Make sure you have enough sections so that each color of the rainbow has a place.
Once you have all of the lines drawn, you can start adding the colors.
I’m using a rock with a base coat, so I should only need one coat for each of my paint pens.
Make sure you go in order! Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Purple. You can keep the colors in line, or let them sneak into each other a bit. It’s up to you!
